At the end of World War 1 the Americans were very fortunate because we were not directly damaged by the war and the need for goods increased. Because the needs for new goods were needed by society, industry and farming rapidly grew. This economic boom affected society greatly. Due to the rapid growth of new industries, jobs were more available, easier to find, and better paid. Now that the economy was up, and doing well, there was a clear link between prosperity and social change. This meant that families had more wealth and not as willing to share the goods they had. Also people such as women were becoming more frivolous and doing things such as, smoking in public, wearing shorter skirts, and wearing make- up.
Above all the automobile industry was growing very fast. Since these cars were selling so well, there was a higher need for rubber to make tyres, glass for windscreens, and leather for seats. Since there was a higher need for these items, these industries also would grow in order to keep the automobile industry growing. These businesses relied on each other in order to keep producing their products and by doing this their businesses would continue to grow rapidly.
There were many reasons for this economic boom, such as isolation. The republican government was under President Harding in 1921- 1923 and President Coolidge from 1923- 1929. This government kept out foreign affairs, and limited foreign competition, stopping transports of high imposing goods. Other reasons were because of technology and mass production. Technology was advancing quickly especially in the electrical, chemical, and film industries. Mass production was especially high in the automobile industry because there was a very high demand for these newly released cars that were never seen before, cheap, and an easier way of travel. Since most people now had jobs and were becoming wealthier they were able to purchase high priced items such as, vacuums, washing machines, and refrigerators in order to do work more easily.
